3] Add settings to the Windows registry
Changing the registry is a risky step if done the wrong way. Therefore, make sure you follow these steps carefully.
For added protection, save the registry before you change it. Then, you can restore the registry if there is a problem.
- Press the keyboard keys (WIN + R) to open the “Run” dialog box. Type “regedit” and press the Enter key.
- In the “Registry Editor” window that opens, navigate to :
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Accessibility\Keyboard Response
- Next on the right-side panel, double-click on “AutoRepeatDelay”. Change the Value data to “500”, and then click OK.
- Change the Value data from “AutoRepeatRate” to “50” and save the changes.
- Next, change the Value data from “BounceTime” to “35” and click OK.
- Restart the computer to make the changes take effect.
4] Update keyboard drivers
A driver is a program that connects hardware with the operating system. If your keyboard driver is corrupted or outdated, then it could cause the keyboard to type double letters. To update the keyboard driver, you can follow these steps:
- Press the keyboard keys (WIN + X) and select the “Device Manager” option.
- Expand on the “Keyboard” section.
- Right-click on the keyboard driver you are using and select “Update driver”. Then follow the on-screen instructions to find and download the latest driver.
- After the latest driver is installed, restart your computer.

- Avoid eating or drinking near the keyboard.
- Do not place heavy objects on the keyboard.
- Keep the keyboard clean and dry.
